Animal Breeding Centre (ABC)

Animal Breeding Centre (ABC) is a unit managed by NDDB Dairy Services situated at Salon, in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh. NDDB Dairy Services is a not-for-profit Company under section 25 of the Companies Act and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NDDB. It functions as a delivery arm of the NDDB for field operations promoting Producer Companies and Productivity Services.

In light of providing affordable high-quality genetics to dairy farmers, NDDB Dairy Services, with its deep-rooted commitment, commissioned the Animal Breeding Centre (ABC) in April 1988. It was established with the objective to improve the genetic merit of animals through the introduction of superior germplasm and increase the yield of dairy animals, across the country. Hundred pure Holstein-Friesian (HF) pregnant heifers gifted by her Royal Highness Princess Irene of Greece to the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi served as the nucleus herd and flagged off ABC’s journey. About 130 pure HF pregnant heifers were also procured under the Indo-German bilateral assistance. The herd was multiplied scientifically through Artificial Insemination using the best genetics and Embryo Transfer techniques. The male calves produced were supplied to various semen stations in the country.

In response to the growing demand for high-quality semen in the country, a semen production station was established at ABC in the year 1993. Subsequently in order to firm up the bio-security at the semen station the bull mother farm was wound up.

Today, with its own semen production station, semen processing laboratory, semen quality control laboratory, feed manufacturing plant, biogas plant and a highly mechanized fodder farm, Animal Breeding Centre has evolved as a Centre of Excellence in animal breeding and fodder production in the country.

Animal Breeding Centre (ABC) is among the 4 mega semen stations owned/managed by NDDB Dairy Services. We produce Bovine frozen semen doses under the brand  “Superior Animal Genetics” (SAG^TM). Produced using advanced genetics and strict adherence to Minimum Standard Protocols as enshrined by Govt. of India, SAG^TM has evolved as the top-selling Bovine semen brand in the country.

ABC is the first semen station in India to be awarded 5S Certification by Quality Control Forum of India (QCFI) in association with Union of Japanese Scientist & Engineers (JUSE) for “5S Workplace Management System”.
